Listen to Judas Priest cover The Stylistics

We know Judas Priest was one of the great heavy metal bands to ever walk the earth (Related: Why Judas Priest is the second-most important heavy metal band of all time), but could they perform pop?

Based on a recently unearthed demo, yes they could.

Judas Priest covered the song “You Are Everything” by The Stylistics in the 1980s and never released the song. A snippet of the song appeared on YouTube last week. Listen below:

Not too bad.

“Our rendition of ‘You Are Everything’ is just beautiful,” Priest singer Rob Halford said to the New York Post, per Blabbermouth.net. It’s an ’80s megarock ballad, with big drums, big vocals, sweeping strings. People are a lot more open-minded now, whereas in those days it could have created a bit of push-back, maybe even some damage to our reputation.”

True, the song is un-Priest like, but it was a good thing to hear it as it shows the band branching out, and doing a good job of it.
