jasonisbellCountry/rock artist Jason Isbell just released a new album, and it’s pretty awesome, and apparently singer-songwriter John Mayer thinks so as well. The two artists compose similar music: gentle rock ‘n’ roll embellished with country, blues, and soul roots, and Mayer is considered one of the most popular songwriters of the 2000s.

Despite his seniority, Mayer doffed his cap to Isbell last week via Twitter.

That’s a pretty bold claim. Is Isbell really as talented as Mayer says he is? Only one way to find out — both Mayer and Isbell make their music available on streaming services like iTunes and Spotify, so check them out and let the debate commence.

You can read Jordan Posner’s review of Isbell’s new album, “Something More Than Free,” here.
