SONG OF THE DAY: Janelle Monae – “Come Alive (War of the Roses)”

Captain Quirk Recalls: Most of ultra-talented R&B singer Janelle Monae’s library wouldn’t meet Sir Rocknuts’ qualifications for this site, but we’ll make an exception for this song. “Come Alive” is an electric mixture of swing and rock and is hard to resist. Monae likes to play this as a finale in concert, during which she dives into the crowd for a little crowd surfing (check out the live version of this song from Glastonbury 2011 to see her at her best and wildest).

And that high note… oh my, that high note (2:15-2:33). If that’s not rockin’, what is?

  1. What an incredible talent. She is capable of just about anything, and she absolutely belongs here. That’s rock and roll, baby!
