Dan Mangan + Blacksmith — Vessel (2014)

Rich Karfilis recalls: This blew me away when I heard it the other day. It’s a three-minute epic. A little bit Peter Gabriel, a little bit Eddie Vedder, with piano power chords and voices, saying:

Stop. Wait. Unhand me.
It takes a village to raise a fool.

It’s hypnotizing. After two and a half minutes, the guitar kicks in and things start getting powerful. When the wild wailing trumpets come in, good golly miss molly, that’s what I call rockin in the 21st century.

And then it suddenly stops. I could have used at least two minutes more. But I really enjoyed the wildly obscure Canadian iconography in the video.
