The Cyrkle – Red Rubber Ball

Sir Rocknuts Recalls: This innocuous tune is a trivia treasure trove. It was the first hit written by Paul Simon (he said he got 100 pounds for it…) and it was recorded it in 1966 by a band that was managed by Beatles manager Brian Epstein. The song was co-written Bruce Woodley of The Seekers who recorded it themselves later that same year. John Lennon named the group – after a roundabout in London. No, The Cyrkle were not one-hit wonders; they had a second hit in 1966: “Turn Down Day.”
