REVIEW: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds “Chasing Yesterday”

3.5 OUT OF 5 NUTS!

Former Oasis guitarist/singer/songwriter Noel Gallagher is back with Chasing Yesterday, the second outing from his solo project Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. With this outing, the group has delivered a steady album of pop/rock songs that doesn’t quite soar to lofty heights but never sinks too low either.

The opening notes of the first track “Riverman” evoke memories of Oasis, but Chasing Yesterday is Gallagher’s work through and through as he wrote and produced the album. “Riverman” is one of the highlights of the album, along with the album’s first single “In the Heat of the Moment” and the slower-paced “The Girl With X-Ray Eyes.”

Chasing Yesterday might not deliver any grandiose Oasis-esque anthems and doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but the album is a solid listen and one that fans of the genre and of Gallagher should like.
